Description of Classes

PreK Creative Ballet: a fun and informative introductory dance class with the emphasis in Ballet. Students will learn the 5 basic ballet positions of the feet and arms, pliés, relevés, battement tendu, chassé, skips, jumps, and other ballet basics of technique. We also explore improvisation, use of props, and how different sounds in music can be experienced to help us move. Each PreK class will have at least one lead instructor and at least one assistant teacher.

Ballet (All Ages): Ballet is a fine art that was created hundreds of years ago and is a cultural tradition that is the foundation of every genre of dance. While Dream Dance does not require students take ballet, we encourage all our students to take ballet to help in their mastery of all kinds of dance. In ballet classes, students will learn ballet terminology in the French language, and positions, poses, and action steps that will be practiced and performed throughout their dance education and career. Students can expect each class to include warm-up, barre work, center technique (“adagio” and “petit allegro”), across the floor progressions (“grand allegro”), as well as choreography.

Jazz/Hip Hop (All Ages): include warm up, isolations, stretches, across the floor progressions, and choreography combinations usually performed with fast, fun, upbeat music. Students will learn turns, proper kick technique (battements), and various jumps and leaps. In these classes we teach stylized technique along with popular hip-hop moves.Jazz/Hip Hop also gives the dancer knowledge in coordination, physical strength and promotes self-confidence.

Tap (All Ages): Tap classes are a great way to develop coordination and rhythmic ability! Our classes teach a leveled syllabus of tap dancing designed by legendary tap instructor, Al Gilbert. Tap dancing is distinguished by percussive footwork and rhythms. We stress the basics of tap while also teaching musicality as well as basic improvisation.

Modern/Contemporary (2nd grade and up): Modern/Contemporary focuses on both modern dance technique and dance improvisation. The modern aspect of the class focuses Graham style modern with full-body movement, fluidity, floor work, and progressions across the floor. Dancers will also become familiar with improvisation: creating movement on the spot without prior planning or choreography. The class will use fun, game-like improv exercises to increase dancers’ confidence and creativity in a supportive and encouraging atmosphere in addition to teaching traditional modern technique and contemporary styles of choreography

Hip Hop (4th grade and older): Our Hip Hop classes teach rhythm, coordination, musicality and choreography without suggestive music or movements. Students are challenged to think on their feet while enjoying an energetic and fast-paced dance class. Our Hip Hop dancers develop focus, strength, and agility while having fun.
